Summer Reading Program for Babies

Starting June 3, babies will have their own Summer Reading Program.  Ask for a registration form.  When you fill it out, you will receive a brochure listing numerous activities to share with your baby.  Some activities are reading to your baby, singing songs or nursery rhymes, blowing bubbles and more.  To complete the program, you just need to perform 10 of the activities to receive a free board book, a duck-shaped game piece [with your child's name] to post on the window upstairs , a certificate and to be entered into a drawing for a baby hat.  The program will run all summer, June 3 through August 10.

Llama Llama and His Mama

llama llama home with mamaMother’s Day is coming up this Sunday, May 12th. There are so many wonderful picture books that depict a mother and child relationship.  Some of my favorite books about that special bond are the Llama Llama series by Anna Dewdney.  Little Llama Llama is just like any other kid.  Sometimes he gets scared at night, or throws a tantrum at the store, or he just doesn’t feel very well.   Lucky for him, he always has his Mama around to love him no matter what.  Toddlers and preschoolers love these books and they are perfect for reading at night while cuddling with your own little llamas.

Be First in Line

Here are a few books that will be on the shelves soon but they are not there yet. Grab your chance to be one of the first people to read these funny tales by placing a request on them today.

Terrific Trees

A tree is niceArbor Day is coming up on April 26th.  In Texas, Arbor Day is held on the last Friday in April, though the first Arbor Day was held on April 10, 1872 in Nebraska.  Arbor Day is a chance for us to reflect on the importance of trees and is often celebrated by planting new trees.

What Was Curious George's First Job?

This week in storytime we celebrated Curious George. During the program I had asked, "What was Curious George's first job?" Did anyone figure it out?  Not sure. To discover the answer checkout Curious George Takes a Job  by  H. A. (Hans Augusto) Rey and  Margret Rey.

Manners Matter

Parents are their child's most important teacher and what you say and what you do will help mold your child's future.

Often it is through observing others that children learn about basic rules of etiquette. Consequentially, it is important that adults model the behavior that they would like for their child to have. In addition, you can help expand your child's knowledge and understanding by read books together and then talking.

When children learn the importance of how to act and how to treat others they are provided a gift that will serve them throughout their entire life.

It's a Whale of a Tale

You've probably heard by now that there will be a Finding Nemo sequel released in 2015 titled Finding Dory.  While I'm excited about a sequel to one of my favorite animated movies, I have to say 2015 is soooo long away!  What's a fish fan to do?  Read, of course!  Here are some of my favorite fishy books to help "tide" you over:

One Fish Two Fish One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish by Dr. Seuss

The classic tale of animals with typical Seussical names!
